HIGH UP ON THE HIMALAYAS

WE ARE SO BEHIND IN OUR REPORTING BUT WANT TO AT LAST START A BIT ON OUR WESTERN HIMALAYAS ADVENTURE.  WE JOINED THE ECO EXPEDITIONS GROUP LED BY OUR GOOD FRIEND GARY WINTZ ON THE 16TH OF SEPT......
THERE WERE 15 OF US.  ALL HAD TRAVELED WITH ECO BEFORE AND MANY WITH GARY.
ON THE AM OF THE 17TH WE FLEW UP TO LEH, LADAKH.   THIS TOOK US TO AN ALTITUDE OF OVER 12, 000 FEET.   AS SOON AS WE ARRIVED WE ALL BASICALLY WENT TO BED FOR A BIT.    NOT ONLY BECAUSE IT HAD BEEN A VERY EARLY MORNING (3:30AM) BUT ALSO TO HELP US ADJUST TO THE VERY THIN AIR.   BUZ AND I TAKE DIAMOX WHICH IS A DIURETIC THAT IS VERY HELPFUL WITH ADJUSTING TO THE ENVIROMENT.   WE STAYED AT THE SHAMBHA-LA HOTEL WHICH HAS A VERY TRADITIONAL FEEL TO IT.  THERE ARE TWO BIG DRAWBACKS THERE.....  THE BEDS ARE ROCK HARD (I DID HAVE OUR YOUNG MAN THAT TOOK CARE OF THE ROOMS FIND US TWO PADS, SO WE WERE OK) AND IT IS COLD AND ONLY HAS HEATERS FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS IN THE EVE, OTHERWISE YOU COULD GET CARBON MONOXIDE POISIONING.    SLEPT UNDER BIG BLANKETS THAT WERE SO HEAVY BUT DID KEEP WARM WHEN IN BED......
THE NEXT DAY WE VISITED THE LOCAL MONESTARIES OF HERMIS BUILT IN 1630 TUCKED INTO A SPECTACULAR VALLEY, AND THEN TO TIKSE, WHICH IS SO PICTURESQUE.   WE CLIMBED TO THE TOP OF SHAY PALACE AND BY THEN  WE WERE ALL TIRED AND READY FOR A PEACEFUL EASY EVENING.
THE NEXT DAY BUZ WOKE UP WITH WE THINK, A VIRUS.   ONE OF THE OTHER LADIES HAD SOMTHING SIMILAR WHEN WE LEFT DELHI AND IT STARTED TO GO AROUND.   HE WAS A REAL TROOPER.    OUR DAY WAS VERY LONG IN THAT WE TOOK THE MOST SPECTACULAR DRIVE UP TO THE LIKIR MONESTARY BUILT IN 1065.  WE ALSO VISITED A WONDEFUL NUNNERY WITH THE SWEETEST YOUNG GIRLS SENT THERE TO STUDY AS IT WAS A CHANCE FOR THEM TO HAVE SOME EDUCATION.  OUR NIGHT WAS SPENT IN ALCHI WHERE THERE IS ALSO ANOTHER FANTASTIC OLD MONESTARY WITH SOME LOVELY ORIGINAL PAINTING IN GOOD CONDITION.  HOTEL WAS BASIC BUT OK.
BUZ MANAGED BUT WAS NOT GETTING MUCH BETTER.
THE NEXT DAY WE SPENT ABOUT 2 HOURS DRVING UP TO THE LAMAYURU MONASTERY.  THE OLDEST SPIRITUAL CENTER IN LADAKH.  THE SURROUNDING WERE ALMOST LIKE BEING ON THE MOON.
ON THE WAY THERE WE DROVE ON A DIRT ROAD UP THE SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN WITH 19 HAIRPIN TURNS.   NO GUARDRAILS AND VERY NARROW...  BUT THE VIEWS AND SCENERY ARE SOMETHING WE WILL NEVER FORGET...  WAS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART.
THE MONESTARY IS VERY SPECIAL AND WORTH THE TIME AND EFFORT TO GET THERE.   AFTER LUNCH WE HEADED BACK  TO LEH WHICH TOOK US OVER 5 HOURS ON THE WINDING NOT SO SMOOTH ROADS.   WE WERE VERY TIRED AND BUZ WAS EXHAUSTED BUT HE HUNG IN THERE VERY WELL.   THAT EVENING WE HAD A SHAMAN COME AND TELL US OUR FORTUNES OR ANSWER ANY QUSTIONS WE MIGHT HAVE.    IT WAS MOST INTERESTING.....
THE NEXT DAY WE HEADED TO THE AIRPORT AND CAUGHT A FLIGHT TO CHANDIGARTH VIA DELHI.

THE ROAD TO JAIPUR

A COUPLE OF DAYS PRIOR TO MEETING OUR GROUP FOR THE WESTERN HIMALAYAN TRIP, WE DECIDED TO VISIT JAIPUR.   ORIGINALLY WE HAD PLANNED TO TAKE THE TRAIN TO AND FROM THERE BUT WHEN WE FOUND OUT THE TIMES BEING SO EARLY AND SO LATE, IT SEEMED BETTER TO HIRE A GOOD CAR AND DRIVER.   IT TAKES 5 HOURS TO GO AROUND 150 MILES AND THE REASON FOR THIS IS THAT THE MAIN NATIONAL HIGHWAY BETWEEN DELHI AND JAIPUR IS USED BY NOT ONLY BY CARS, BUT LOTS OF TRUCKS, CAMEL CARTS, DONKEY CARTS, MOTORIZED RICKSHAWS, MOTORBIKES,  COWS USING IT FOR A NICE PLACE TO REST AND EVEN A FEW LOST DUCKS.    YOU HAVE TO SEE IT TO BELIEVE IT...........................
ONCE WE ARRIVED THERE WE VISITED THE BEAUTIFUL AMBER FORT.   IT WAS MY FIRST VISIT THERE AND BUZ HAD NOT BEEN THER FOR ABOUT 40 YEARS SO IT WAS WELL WORTH THE EFFORT TO SEE IT.  IT IS A PALACE WITH IN THE FORT.
WE CHECKED IN THEN TO THE OASIS IN THE DESERT CALLED THE OBEROI RAJVILLAS.    IT WAS SO LOVELY TO BE OUT OF THE TRAFFIC AND NOISE.   WE ENJOYED A MASSAGE AND JUST SPENDING SURROUNDED BY LOVELY GARDENS , LOTUS PONDS IN THE MAGICAL SETTING.
THE NEXT DAY WE VISITED THE CITY PALACE WHICH AGAIN HAD SOME LOVELY ARCHITECTURE AND FURNISHINGS FROM THE SEVENTEEN HUNDREDS  MOGUL PERIOD. AFTER A QUICK LUNCH AT ANOTHER SPECTACULAR HOTEL, THE RAMBAUGH PALACE, STILL OWNED BY ONE OF THE PAST PRINCESSES, WE STARTED THE LONG DRIVE BACK TO DELHI.   ARRIVED BACK THERE AROUND 7PM.     AGAIN TIRED WITH FRAYED NERVES.
THE NEXT DAY WE DID MORE TOURIST THINGS INCLUDING THE RED FORT, IN THE OLD CITY, THE LARGE MOSQUE, , AND TOOK SOME TIME FOR A BIT OF SHOPPING.

MORE INDIA ADVENTURES

ONE OF THE FUN THINGS WE HAVE DONE WHILE IN DELHI IS TO REVISIT THE SCHOOL WHERE WE VOLUNTEERED IN APRIL.
WE HAD BOUGHT A SMALL CAMERA FOR THEM WHILE PASSING THROUGH DUBAI AND ALSO BROUGHT SCHOOL SUPPLIES FROM HOME.  THE DIRECTOR OF JOINING HANDS, THE NGO GROUP THAT ORGANIZIES TOURISTS AS VOLUNTEERS WENT WIT US TO THE SCHOOL AND TOOK MORE PICTURES OF US WITH THE STUDENTS.   WE ARE ON THEIR WEBSITE.  (WILL GIVE THAT TO YOU LATER).   IT WAS A REWARDING EXPERIENCE.   SADLY THE GIRL THAT WE HAD WANTD TO SPONSER HAS BEEN FORBIDDEN BY HER FATHER TO GO ON TO UNIVERSITY.  SHE DID FINISH HIGH SCHOOL.  THERE HAD BEEN OTHER PEOPLE THAT HAD ALSO WANTED TO HELP HER AS SHE IS SO BRIGHT BUT HER FATHER FEELS SHE NEED TO WORK TO HELP THE FAMILY AND MOST LIKELY WILL BE GETTING MARRIED SOON.   AT LEAST HER CHILDREN WILL HAVE A MOTHER THAT HAS AN EDUCATION.    WE ARE LOOKING AT MAYBE HELPING SOME OTHER GIRL THAT NEED ASSISTANCE.  WE WILL SEE.

KASHMIR............

WE SPENT 4 DAYS IN SRINAGAR.  iT IS A LITTLE OVER AN HOUR FLIGHT FROM NEW DELHI.  ON THE DAY WE FLEW OUT, THE AIRLINE WE WERE BOOKED ON WENT ON STRIKE BUT OUR GUIDE MADE ARRANGMENTS FOR US TO FLY OUT ON ANOTHER AIRLINE CALLED, SPICE AIR.  THE PLANE WAS A NEW 737 800 SERIES AND IT WAS A GOOD FLIGHT.   THE VIEW OF THE HIMILAYAS WAS FANTASTIC AS IT WAS A CLEAR, SUNNY DAY.   IT HAD BEEN 35 YEARS SINCE I HAD BEEN THERE AND IT WAS BUZ'S FIRST VISIT.   THINGS HAVE CHANGED.    MY MEMORIES OF THE SCATTERD HOUSEBOATS ON DAL LAKE NOW LOOKS LIKE A HOUSING DEVELPOMENT IN WEST PHOENIX..  THEY ARE EVERYWHERE.
WE WERE LUCKY THOUGHT, IN THAT OUR TOUR GUIDE HAD ARRANGED FOR US TO BE ON A THE SMALLER AND MUCH QUIETER LAKE  THAT HAS MUCH FEWER BOATS AND IS MORE LIKE  WHAT I HAD EXPERIENCES SO MANY YEARS AGO.   THE HOUSEBOAT WAS BEAUTIFUL.  ALL CARVED WOOD AND LOVELY ANTIQUE FURNITURE.   IT IS CALLED THE INDIA PALACE AND I WOULD IMAGINE THAT YOU COULD FIND PICTURES ON THE WEB...
WE TOOK SIDE TRIPS TO TWO DIFFERENT MOUNTAIN REGIONS.  THE FIRST ONE WAS A 3 HOURS DRIVE TO THE SOUTH WEST AND WE FOLLOWED ALONG THE RIVER LIDDER.   WE PASSED THOUGH MANY  SMALL VILLAGES.   WITH THE PROBLEMS OF THE INSURGANCY THERE IS A BIG INDIA MILITARY PRESENCE SO SOLDIERS ARE EVERYWHERE.  WE DID NOT FEEL UNSAFE AND THE PEOPLE WERE KIND AND RECEPTIVE TO US.
ANOTHER DAY WE WENT UP TO THE SKI AREA ABOUT 2 HOURS TO THE NORTH WEST.   IT WAS ESTABLISHED BY THE BRITISH AND HAS A GOLF COURSE THERE STARTED IN 1906.  (THE COURSE IS UNDER BADLY NEED RENOVATION)
THERE ARE SEVERAL BIG HOTELS.  WE TOOK THE GONDOLA RIDE UP THE MOUNTAIN AND HAD A GREAT VIEW OVER THE VALLEY. IT IS THE SMALLEST GONDOLA WE HAD EVEN BEEN ON, HOLDS FOUR PEOPLE AND IF YOU ARE BIG IN GIRTH I AM NOT SURE HOW YOU  WOULD SQUEEZE THROUGH THE OPENING.  IT WAS BUILT BY THE FRENCH MANY YEARS AGO..   YES, AS YOU CAN SEE, WE DID SURVIVE THAT LITTLE ADVENTURE.  THE SKI HILL IS A WIDE OPEN AREA ABOVE THE TREE LINE   THE WORD GROOMING IS SOMETHING THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT.
OUR TIME ALSO INCLUDED LOVELY RIDES ON THE LAKES, VISITNG AMAZING OLD MOSQUES AND TEMPLES, AND PLAYING 9 HOLES OF GOLF ON THE ROYAL SPRINGS GOLF COURSE DESIGNED BY ROBERT TRENT JONES JR.   IT IS A WELL GROOMED COURSE WITH GREAT GREENS, GREAT VIEWS AND KILLER ROUGH.    OF COURSE, WE HAD TO RENT CLUBS.    MINE WERE OLD PATTY BERGS... JUST LIKE I USED WHEN I FIRST LEARNED TO PLAY GOLF IN 1967 WHEN IN COLLEGE.  AMAZINGLY THE 5 WOOD  WORKED PRETTY WELL.   MY CADDY WAS IMPRESSED, BUT HE AND THE OTHER CADDIE KEPT TRYING TO GIVE BUZ LESSONS...(SOUND FAMILIAR?)...HE DID GET A COUPLE OF GOOD POINTERS AND WITH MUCH BETTER CLUBS THAN MINE, DID GET SOME GOOD DRIVES.   IT WAS A FUN OUTING.
WE HAD PERFECT WEATHER.  A GREAT GUIDE (NOW OUR FRIEND) AND IT RAINED IN DELHI THE WHOLE TIME WERE GONE
THE DRIVERS IN KASHMIR LOVE THEIR HORNS AS THEY DO ALL OVER INDIA.   IT IS CHEAPER TO REPAIR A HORN THAN TO BUY NEW BRAKES. TRAFFIC IN THE CITY IS TERRIBLE AND EVERYONE FIGHTS FOR A SPACE, BUT YOU RARELY SEE AN ACCIDENT.
IT WAS FUN TO BE BACK BUT I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER KASHMIR OF THE 70'S

MARVELOUS MALDIVES

WE HAD A FUN TRIP ON THE MALDIVES AGGRESSOR.  THE DIVING WAS LOVELY ALTHOUGH IT DOES NOT COMPARE WITH INDONESIA.   THE CORALS, HARD AND SOFT ARE NOT NEARLY AS VIVID OR PROLIFIC.   THE AMOUNT OF FISH LIFE THOUGH IS VERY GOOD.  WE WERE ABLE TO FIND A COUPLE OF NEW FISH WE HAD NOT SEEN BEFORE SO THAT IS ALWASY EXCITING FOR US.  THERE IS ALOT OF DRIFT DIVING AND MANY TIMES THE CORALS STARTED AT AROUND 30 FEET.
THERE WAS A COUPLE OF LOVELY ENCOUNTERS WITH MANTAS.   SADLY THE WHALES SHARKS WERE NOT AROUND BUT SINCE WE HAVE BEEN LUCKY TO SEE THEM IN OTHER PLACES WE WERE NOT AS DISAPPOINTED  AS OTHERS.
THE DIVERS ABOARD WERE ALL VERY EXPERIENCED AND WE ENJOYED THEIR COMPANY.
THE BOAT WAS VERY NICE AND COMFORTABLE AND THE CREW WAS HELPFUL  THEY TOOK CARE OF ALL OUR NEEDS.
THE MALDIVES ABOVE WATER ARE BEAUTIFUL ATOLLS.  THE RESORTS FROM WHAT WE CAN SEE ARE AMAZING.
THE WATER  VISIBILITY WAS FAIR, AT OTHER TIMES OF THE YEAR IT IS SUPPOSE TO BE BETTER.
CONDITIONS VARY BY SEASON.
IT WAS A POSITIVE EXPERIENCE.   I THINK IF WE GO BACK WE WOULD WANT TO ALSO EXPERIENCE SOMEMORE OF THE ABOVE WATER EXPERIENCE.

TALE OF TWO TRAVELERS.

WELL WE ARE BACK IN DELHI...    HAVE HAD A NICE COUPLE OF DAYS HERE..  THE TAJ PALACE HOTEL IS WONDERFUL AND BEING ON THE CLUB FLOOR IS REALLY NICE...  BET WE ARE NOT SO LUCKY WHEN WE COME BACK ON THE 6TH.
GETTING HERE HAD ITS MOMENTS BUT ALLS WELL THAT ENDS WELL.
WE LEFT AZ. AT 6AM FOR CHICAGO.   WERE TO HAVE A 2 PLUS HOUR LAYOVER THAT TURNED INTO A 5 PLUS HOUR LAYOVER, WHICH CAUSED US TO MISS OUR LUFTHANSAS FLIGHT OUT OF WASHINGTON DC.    WE ENDED UP FINALLY GETTING TO WASHINGTON AND WERE BOOKED ON THE 9:13p  UNITED FLIGHT TO FRANKFURT.   THAT WENT FINE AND WERE ABLE THEN TO MAKE OUR CONNECTION ON LUFTHANSAS TO DELHI.   (THAT WAS A LOVELY FLIGHT)..   WE DID SLEEP ALOT ON BOTH FLIGHTS, BUT WERE READY FOR SOME REAL SLEEP WHEN WE ARRIVED HERE AT 1:00A.    SLEPT TILL AROUND 9 AND HAD A FANTASTIC BREAKFAST
HAVE MANAGED TO REPACK NOW FOR OUR TRIP TO THE MALDIVES.  WE LEAVE AT 10 THIS EVE.  LEAVING ALOT OF BAGS HERE AT THE HOTEL....
LAST EVENING WE WENT TO OUR FAVORITE CHOR BAZZARE RESTAURANT AT THE BROADWAY HOTEL FOR A WAZWAN KASHMIR DINNER..  WAS DELICIOUS.   THAN BACK HERE TO BED....  BUT NOT UNTIL BUZ COULD ARRANGE TO HAVE SENT FROM THE HOME A NEW ATM CARD...   HE LEFT HIS AT HOME..........  IT SHOULD BE HERE EARLY NEXT WEEK...
JUST A LITTLE BUMP IN THE ROAD.
SO OFF TO THE MALDIVES AND A WEEK ABOARD THE AGGGRESSOR DIVE BOAT.   BACK TO YOU AFTER THAT.
BEV AND BUZ IN DELIGHTFUL DELHI

DEPROGRAMMING IN UTAH

HELLO
WE SPENT A COUPLE OF DAYS AT HOME TO TAKE CARE OF MAIL AND REGROUPING  BEFORE COMING  TO PARK CITY, UTAH TO SPEND SOME TIME WITH OUR GRANDSONS AND FAMILY. (ALSO SOME GOLF)    FOR 5 NIGHTS AFTER WE FINISHED THE RACE, I WOULD WAKE UP WITH DREAMS ABOUT SCAVANGERS.   THEY REALLY HAD US PROGRAMMED.... THINK THE DREAMS ARE  MOSTLY GONE NOW BUT THE MEMORIES ARE VERY VIVID.
FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT HAVE GENEROUSLY  PLEDGED, WE HAVE TRAVELED 35,483 K OR 21,270 MILES..   WE ENDED WITH 7,782 POINTS (BUT ONLY HOLDING YOU TO THE 4000 UNLESS YOU WANT TO SEND MORE).   I AM GOING TO TRY AND PUT ON THE WEB SOME OF THE PICTURES AND VIDEOS FROM THE TRIP BUT WILL NEED SOME HELP IN DOING SO, WILL LET YOU KNOW VIA E-MAIL WHEN THEY ARE AVAILABLE.
THANK YOU AGAIN FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT.   YOU WERE GREAT MOTIVATORS IN OUR QUEST.
BEV AND BUZ....

BLITZING BOSTON

THE LADIES FROM NEWPORT BEACH AND US (BUZ AND HIS HAREM) HEADED OUT THIS AM  IN BOSTON FOR OUR LAST SCAVANGER  HUNT.    WE LEFT AT AROUND 9AM AND ARRIVED BACK AT 2:45P IN TIME TO MEET THE GROUP AT 3PM FOR THE FINAL COUNT AND AWARDS CEREMONY.   WE ALL MET IN THE OAK ROOM HERE AT THE FAIRMOUNT COPLEY HOTEL WHERE WE ARE STAYING AND RECEIVED OUR SURVIVOR TEESHIRTS AND BILL AND PAMELA PRESENTED THE VARIOUS AWARDS..
WE HAD DONE A BETTING POOL, GUESSING THE MOST CORRECT PLACES WE MAY VISIT AND BUZ WON SOME MONEY OUT OF THAT, SO THAT MADE HIM FEEL BETTER ABOUT ALL THE MONEY WE SPENT ON TAXIS IN COPENHAGEN.
FOR THE SECOND TIME IN A ROW WE CAME IN FIRST FOR TODAYS SCAVANGERS (ALONG WITH THE GALS) AND  IT PUT US FIRMLY IN  OVERALL 5TH PLACE.   THAT IS ABOUT WHERE WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN AND FEEL PRETTY GOOD AS BEING THE OLDEST TEAM  (COMBINED AGES) WE MORE THAN HELD OUR OWN.  WE FOUND OUT WE TRAVELED 35,483 KM. AIR MILES  (A BIT MORE ACTUALLY WHEN YOU ADD OUR SIDE TRIPS) .
OUR FINAL POINT NUMBER IS 7,782 POINTS   (WE WILL ONLY HOLD YOU TO THE 4000 WE ESTIMATED IN OUR LETTER BUT IT IS YOUR CHOICE)  THERE WERE MORE SCAVANGERS TO CHOOSE FROM THIS YEAR AND HIGHER POINT COUNTS THAN IN PREVIOUS YEARS.  THE WINNERS HAD ALMOST 12,000 POINTS. THIS IS MORE THAT TWICE WHAT THE WINNERS HAD LAST YEAR.
WE HAD FUN TODAY IN BOSTON.  SOME OF THE THINGS WE DID WERE... EAT GELATO IN THE NORTH END, FIND THE NATIONS FIRST PUBLIC SCHOOL. QUOTED LONGFELLOW AS WE WENT OVER THE LONGFELLOW BRIDGE.  HAD OUR PICTURES TAKEN AT THE REPLICA OF THE CHEERS BAR.  (TOMORROW BUZ AND I WILL GO TO THE CURRENT ONE ON BEACON), FOUND THE STATUE OF THREE LIES, THE WHISPERING GALLERY, THE WIDENER LIBRARY, AND A COUPLE OTHER FUN SCAVANGERS ON THE  HARVARD CAMPUS.
WE VISITED PAUL REVERE'S HOUSE,  MRS MALLARD AND HER DUCKINGS, FOUND THE BIG TEA CUP, SANG "HAVE YOU EVER SEEN THE RAIN"  WITH A STREET PERFORMER  (OUR ODE TO SCANDANAVIA).  ALSO HAD FUN CROSSING THE FINISH LINE OF THE BOSTON MARATHON, AND A FEW OTHER SCAVANGERS.   WE GOT A GOOD IDEA ABOUT BOSTON AND IT'S HISTORY.
TONIGHT WE HAVE OUR FINAL DINNER WITH THE GROUP AND GUESS WE ARE TO TELL STORIES AND BRING SOME OF OUR COLLECTIONS.,  (I WON A BOTTLE OF WINE FOR MY BEER LABEL COLLECTION...)
TOMORROW BACK TO NORMAL TRAVEL AS BUZ AND I WANT TO SPEND TIME AT THE NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM AND THE PEABODY OVER AT HARVARD.   ON MONDAY AND TUESDAY WE ARE GOING DOWN TO  NEWPORT, RHODE ISLAND TO SPEND SOMETIME VISITNG THE FAMOUS  MANSIONS AND SURROUNDING AREA.   HOME ON WEDNESDAY.

AS I SAID BEFORE, WE ARE SO HAPPY WE DID THIS BUT ALSO RELIEVED THAT IT IS OVER.   WE MET SOME REALLY LOVELY  PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD AS WELL AS THOSE THAT SHARED THE EXPERIENCE WITH US.
THANK YOU  TO ALL OF YOU FOR FOLLOWING ALONG ON OUR ADVENTURE AND SUPPORTING US BY YOUR ENTHUSIASTIC MORAL SUPPORT AS WELL AS FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR THE FOUNDATION. (LOVED ALL THE NOTES YOU  SENT)  WE HAVE GAINED MUCH  BY DOING THIS AND FOUND OUT THAT ONE CAN  ACCOMPLISH ALOT DESPITE AND INSPITE OF ONES AGE.   WE HAVE DECIDED THAT AGE  IS ONLY A NUMBER.  (THIS WAS GREAT MENTAL AND PHYSICAL EXERCISE)
BUZ AND I HAVE LEARNED THAT STRANGERS ARE READY WILLING AND HAPPY TO HELP,   (YOU JUST NEED TO ASK), THAT THOSE WITHOUT ALOT OF MATERIAL THINGS ARE RICH IN LOVE AND FAMILY AND THAT WE SHOULD BE AS GENEROUS  AS POSSIBLE IN OUR HELP TO THOSE LESS FORTUNATE.
WE HAVE ALSO CONFIRMED OUR BELIEF THAT, WHEN YOU LOOK AROUND THE CORNER YOU ARE AMAZED AT WHAT WONDERFUL THINGS ONE CAN FIND.
THE WORLD IS BIG BUT AT THE SAME TIME SMALL AND PEOPLE ARE DIFFERENT BUT ALIKE.
WE HOPE YOU TO CAN GET TO SEE AND EXPERIENCE IT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.   IT IS A LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCE.
SIGNING OFF
TEAM B & B  IN BOSTON.       ARIZONA HERE WE COME.

BLOWN AWAY BY ICELAND

FROM THE MINUTE WE LANDED  IN ICELAND TILL THE TIME WE LEFT, THE WIND NEVER STOPPED..   TODAY YOU ALMOST HAD TO HOLD ON TO SOMETHING TO KEEP FROM BEING BLOWN AWAY.... BUT DESPITE THAT AND THE COLD (ABOUT 40 DEGREE AND WITH THE WIND IT FELT LIKE 25) WE LOVED OUR 22 HOURS THERE.   WE PACKED ALOT OF PUNCH INTO OUR STAY AND WERE REWARDED, WE HEAR BY HAVING THE LARGEST NUMBER  OF POINTS  FOR THIS LOCATION OF THE GROUPS. ( TRAVELED AGAIN WITH JACKIE AND SYLVIA, WE MAKE A GOOD 4 PERSON TEAM)
AFTER ARRIVING IN REYKJAVIK AND CHECKING INTO THE BORG HOTEL, A SMALLER BUT WELL KEPT PLACE IN A GREAT LOCATION, WE ALL MET AND WERE GIVEN OUR BOOK OF SCAVANGERS.  BUZ IMMEDIATELY WENT AND CALLED HERTZ AND HE PICKED UP A TOYOTA LANDCRUISE TO USE WHILE IN ICELAND.  THIS WAS THE ONLY TIME WE WERE ALLOWED TO RENT A CAR AND TO WORK THE WHOLE TIME WITH OTHER TEAMS)
ATTENDING THE ICELAND SYMPHONY THAT EVENING WAS ON THE LIST FOR BONUS POINTS, SO WE CALLED AND GOT TICKETS FOR THE CONCERT.   IT WAS THE PERFECT WAY TO SPEND A COUPLE OF HOURS.   THE PROGRAM INCLUDED DEBUSSY, A CONCERTO BY HENRI DUTILLEAUX (WHO WAS NEW TO ALL OF US), AND A WONDERFUL RENDITION OF BEETHOVEN"S PIANO CONCERT # 5 OP 73.  THE SOLOIST WAS FROM PALESTINE AND HAD PERFORMED ALL OVER THE WORLD.
AFTER THE CONCERT WAS OVER, IT WAS AROUND 9:45P AND STILL VERY LIGHT, SO WE WENT AND COMPLETED  A COUPLE OF FOOD SCAVANGERS THAT INCLUDED DELICIOUS LOBSTER SOUP AT A FUNKY LITTLE JOINT NEAR THE HARBOR, AND THEN TRYING A PYLSUR, THEIR VERSION OF A HOTDOG.  NONE OF US LIKED THIS SO AFTER A SORT OF TASTE IT WENT TO DOG HEAVEN.
FROM THERE WE DROVE AND ACCOMPLISED  SEVERAL OTHER SCAVANGERS.  WE PHOTOGRAPHED THE BEAUTIFUL SUNSET AROUND 11:30P AND ARRIVED BACK TO THE HOTEL AROUND MIDNIGHT.
TODAY WE LEFT AT 7AM FOR A DRIVING TRIP TO SEE THE WORLD'S FIRST PARLIAMENT BUILDING ( A GROUP OF ROCKS THAT WAS ONCE A SETTLEMENT AND SITUATED BY THIS AMAZING RIFT THAT DEMARKS THE JOINING OF THE TETONIC PLATES OF EURO/ASIA  WITH NORTH AMERICA.  THIS WAS AN ORIGIONAL VIKING SETTLEMENT.  IT IS A WORLD HERITAGE SITE.
FROM THERE WE DROVE ON SOME NARROW AND SOMETIMES DIRT ROADS TO SEE THE GEYERS.  THERE ARE SEVERAL ACTIVE ONES AND WE MANAGED TO SEE ONE OF THEM ERUPT.  IT WAS SO COLD AND WINDY STANDING AROUND WAITING FOR IT TO BLOW...  OUR NEXT STOP WAS THE BEAUTIFUL AND AMAZING GULLFOSS.  A WATERFALL CASCADE THAT IS TRULY IMPRESSIVE.  WE ALSO STOPPED AT THE KERIIO THAT IS ONE OF SEVERAL ERUPTION POINTS OF THE VOLCANO THAT HAD BEEN ACTIVE IN THE AREA.  IT  IS  A SMALL LAKE SET INTO A DEEP CAULDRON.
ANOTHER FUN SCAVENGER WAS LOCATING  ALL THE GREEN HOUSES IN THE SMALL TOWN OF HVERAGERDI. WHERE THERE IS A HORTICULTURE SCHOOL.   WE FOUND STRAWBERRIES, RUBARB AND EVEN A BANANA TREE.
THERE WAS ALSO TIME TO GO UP TO THE TOP OF THE HIGHEST BUILDING IN REYKIAVIK BEFORE GOING DIRECTLY TO THE AIRPORT FOR OUR 5:00 P  ICELANDIC FLIGHT TO BOSTON.
ONE OF THE SCAVANGERS THAT WE DID WAS FINDING THE SMALL OLD BUILDING DATING FR0M THE EARLY 1900'S WHERE NIXON AND GORBACHEV HAD A SUMMIT IN 1986.  THIS  MEETING VIRTUALLY ENDED THE COLD WAR AND IF WE HAD ACCEPTED ONE OF THE PROPOSALS, IT WOULD HAVE  CHANGED THE NUCLEAR FACE OF THE WORLD.
SO AS YOU CAN SEE THERE IS ALOT TO DO ON ICELAND.  WE WANT TO COME BACK,  AND EXPLORE ALOT MORE OF THE ISLAND..
WE ARE NOW IN BOSTON....MUST GET TO BED.  LAST SCAVANGERS TOMORROW STARTING AT 8:00A.  WE FINALLY END TOMORROW EVE WITH A BANQUET AND AWARD CEREMONY.   THINK BUZ AND I ARE STILL IN 5TH  OR 6TH PLACE .  WE ARE PLEASED NOT TO BE LAST.  WE TOOK THE POSITION THAT WE WANTED TO GET POINTS, HAVE SOME ENJOYMENT AND LEARNING ALONG THE WAY, AND STAY HEALTHY.  THINK WE ACCOMPLISHED ALL THESE THINGS.
MORE LATER ABOUT OUR  SCAVENGER DAY IN BOSTON.

YEA! A NEW COUNTRY.... BUZ HITS HIS 200

WE ARE OFF TO ICELAND..  STAYING THE NIGHT IN REYKJAVIK.....
WE ARE EXCITED..  SOMETHING NEW FOR BOTH OF US,  FINALLY.
THIS GIVES BUZ HIS 200TH AND MY 231ST COUNTRIES.
MORE ON ICELAND TOMORROW...
KNOW  DO KNOW WE ARE GOING ON TO BOSTON TOMORROW SOMETIME.
BEV.
